I had to redo this so sorry for the repeat! :P
This is my first blog so bare with me! I have been inspired to start a project involving acts of kindness. A few months ago my hairdresser & I were talking & she told me the neatest story. She told me about a friend of hers that wanted to celebrate her 50th BD in a creative way. Instead of her friends buying her gifts she wanted them to do an act of kindness in her honor. She had a friend that bought her a $50 gift card to McDonald's & told her to pay for the car behind her every time she was in line until it ran out. She had other friends that helped the recent tornado victims by buying $50 worth of laundry detergent & took it to them so they could wash clothes. I thought this was the NEATEST thing I had heard in a long time! The wheels started turning & I started wondering, "How could I do this & help the most people?" Then I thought of my classroom! Next, I started thinking of a number...how many acts COULD we do? Then I got it! 100 is a HUGE number in 1st grade! So my idea sprouted wings & took off-100 Acts of Kindness in 100 Days! SO we (my class & I) are going to try to do a 100 acts of kindness in 100 days! I have LOTS of ideas! I would like to start at the very beginning of school: we're going to fill pencil boxes for kids that can't afford their school supplies. My idea is to start small-I have 4 learning teams so I thought each learning team could fill a box. I don't want this to be a financial burden or "one more thing" that parents/I have to pay for. I want to help but again I don't want it to be a hardship on anyone especially in the current economic climate. SO...I have been watching sale ads like an eagle & stocking up on supplies as they go on sale. I will continue to do so throughout the year as our projects change. :) I would also like to send the troops care packages, & donate C-mas & Thanksgiving baskets to needy families. However, I do want my kids to know that an act of kindness doesn't have to cost a dime so I have several "free ideas" as well: art for an assisted living center, running errands for other classrooms, cooking/baking for local firefighters/police officers etc.
I am open to other ideas as well. I will discuss this with my school when school starts so they can let our class know of specific needs w/in our school. I want my kids to take ownership of this so I will present them with all suggestions and let them vote on what they want to do.
I want to accomplish many things with this project-mainly I want the kids to learn how rewarding it is to help others. I also want them to realize you can help others & it doesn't have to cost anything! I am also hoping for the ripple effect-I hope our classroom can inspire other classrooms/families & they will start their own kindness projects. Hopefully this can become a natural way of life for all of us! :)
I thought it would be neat to document our project from the beginning & I'd been wanting to start a blog so...I thought-what a great way to document our project! :)
Feel free to follow our blog, give us suggestions, help us out with items & give us uplifting input! I am SO EXCITED to see what a difference we can make in our community! :)
