Week 17-On Our Way to 350 AOKs! :)

This wk we did a really fun AOK.  We wrote C-mas cards for a soldier's parents.  The soldier is stationed in Afghanistan & this is the 1st C-mas he's been away from his family.  He posted on his fb page that he was really appreciative of the cards/gifts they'd been sending them to him but that his parents were having a difficult time w/ his absence during the holidays & that if we wanted to do something nice then would we please send cards to his parents so...we did!  :)  The kids also voted to try for 350 AOKs in 100 days.  We challenged the school to see how many they could do in the next 100 days!  :)

Week 16-We've reached our goal of 200 AOK in 100 Days! :)

This month we are focusing on FREE Acts of Kindness!  This week we made 3 sets of Holiday Cards.  My mom & Mady took a set to a local assisted living center close to our house along w/ holiday baskets that my Mom had made.  Mady had a GREAT time passing them out & Mom said the residents had a great time getting them!  The next set went to Mrs. Mitchell's grandmother's assisted living center.  :)  I am taking the final set to Arbor Terrace sometime this wk.  :)  Friday we took our usual recycle bins out.  This brought us to our goal of  200 AOKs in 100 days.  We're at # 280 so...I will have to see how the kids want to proceed-300, 350 or 400 AOKs in 100 days?

Week 15

This week all of our Acts of Kindness were FREE!  (We are focusing on free AOKs in Dec. so our loved ones can spend their hard earned money on other things.)  ;) We made my Aunt Lahoma BD cards for her 70th BD and we took 20 recycle bins out for K & 1st grade today.  We also decided to start recycling plastic in our classroom starting next week.  :)   We are going to be making a lot of holiday cards in the next few wks!  :)  We're only 8 AOKs away from reaching our 200 goal-might we make it to 250 or 300???

Dec. AOK

For the month of December we will be concentrating on FREE Acts of Kindness!  I know that our parents have very important things to spend their money on this month!  We are very grateful for all of the help our parents have given us thus far!  We only have 29 acts to reach our goal of 200!

Nov. AOK!

This was only a two day wk but we did our November AOK this wk!  :)  We cooked on Tuesday morning-spaghetti, salad, green beans, bread & chocolate chip cookies.  After school we met at the firestation & delivered it to the firefighters.  They were very grateful!  :)  They gave the kids a grand tour & let them play on the firetruck.  We stayed for an hour!  :)  The firefighters talked to them about their thoughtfulness & good things coming back to them.  :)  I was very proud of the kids!  :)

Week 14

This week we did some fun AOKs.  We made 94th BD cards for one of my friend's grandfathers; Mr. Lawson.  He REALLY liked them & it made the kids SO PROUD & HAPPY!  :)  We also donated some items to a Thanksgiving basket for one of our families.  We also gathered 835 box tops for our school-raising $83. 50.  Today we emptied 20 recycle bins for K & 1st grade teachers.  :)  Next week we are VERY excited about cooking our meals for the firefighters!  I hope it goes smoothly-we'll see how working in a kitchen w/ 22 kids will be!  ;)  The kids & I have decided that we are going to do all FREE acts of kindness in December since our parents have been so generous & we know they'll be spending a lot in December on other things!  ;)

November AOK

For our November project we will be making dinner the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break for local firefighters to show our appreciation for them.  We wanted to show our appreciation to someone that we were "thankful" for that didn't necessiarly get Thanksgiving off.  To go along w/ our Social Studies unit we VOTED on what we wanted to make them.  The winning vote consisted of:  spaghetti, green beans, bread, salad & chocolate chip cookies.  :)  Mrs. Turpin is going to let us use her room during her plan time to do the cooking.  The kids are SUPER EXCITED to cook!  My sweet mom has already purchased a lot of the items for the meal so my parents won't have to donate so much since it is a spendy time of year for families.  It's coming together nicely.  :)  My students have "officially" reached their 100th act so...we're going to have to VOTE again to see what we want our new AOK goal to be-I'm anxious to see what the kids decide!  I'll keep you posted!  ;)

October AOK Project! :)

We sent our October Act of Kindness to Whitney Elementary today!  :)  My kids made cards for the students & they raised $71 to send to their school.  We sent it in the form of a Walmart giftcard.  The school can purchase their most needed items w/ the giftcard.  I was SO proud of my students for raising so much money.  I even emailed Ellen to tell her about this project since we first found out about it on her show!  Two of my sweet girls even donated their own money from their piggy banks to send!  This makes my heart SO HAPPY & let's me know that my kids are really "getting" the idea behind our project.  :)
HOORAY!  :)

Week 12

This was a VERY BUSY week & it rained two days this week so...we only did one Act of Kindness.  :P  We took Moody Crew's Library books for them.  :)
This wk on the same day (w/o talking to each other 1st)  two of my sweet girls brought money for our October AOK project from their own piggy banks.  This REALLY made me SOOOO proud & warmed my heart!  This is EXACTLY what I am hoping to do w/ this project & by the girls doing this I feel maybe, just maybe, we are making a difference & the kids are really "getting" it! :)
Next week we start our unit in Social Studies on citizenship & voting so that will go PERFECT w/ our Novemeber AOK-we are going to take some local firefighters dinner the day before Thanksgiving break.  I'm going to let the kids VOTE on what to make & take to them.  They are VERY EXCITED about this & they already have LOTS of ideas!  ;)  We are also going to adopt a student @ CBE & donate a Thanksgiving basket to them so their family will be able to have a "real" thanksgiving.  This month I am going to try to really focus on being THANKFUL & hopefully lead by example in showing them all the things we have to be thankful for-whether it's small or large!  :)

Week 11

I was out one day this wk & we had a fieldtrip today so it was kind of a short wk for AOKs.  We gave Ms. Cunningham crayons for her friend's project.  We also made Thinking of You cards for one of my friends thats Mamaw passed away.  I've got some Nov. ideas rolling around...we're going to adopt someone at our school to give a Thanksgiving basket and we're going to make a healthy meal for the fire fighters on North Peter's Rd. to take to them the wk of Thanksgiving.  The kids are SUPER EXCITED about planning the meal & then cooking it!  :)

Week 10

It was a short wk but we kept busy!  ;)  We are continuing to collect $ for Whitney Elementary.  I am taking our Target donation request tomorrow & Mr. Holloway is giving his WalMart donation request tonight.  :)  We took HP Crew's library books for them.  We gave Ms. Hardin some plastic bags for an Art project.  Today my kids took 19 classes recycle bins in the K & 1st grade hall!  I talked to Ms. Horton today about adopting a class in Nov. for a Thanksgiving basket.  The wheels are always turning!  :)

Week 9-We're Over Half Way There! :)

This week we did several Acts of Kindness.  We wrote two Get Well cards, 1 to one of our students & 1 to a soldier that lost both of his legs in a road side bomb in Afghanistan.  We also took Moody's Crew's books to the library for them.  We also took 7 recycle bins out for Mrs. Earle, Ms. Moody, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Schafer, Miss Joiner, Mrs. Goodwin & Mrs. Haney.  We also gave Mrs. Cunningham another baggie of crayons for her friend.  It was a good week for us.  :)  My kids were wondering how many acts we had done today so I checked on our blog & we're over half way done & it's only Day 38 of school!  I AM SO PROUD OF MY KIDS!  :)

Week 8

What a GREAT wk for our AOKs!  We completed our Sept. AOK project-5 boxes sent to soldiers in Japan & Afghanistan.  We sent sympathy cards to a friend in Mrs. Crawford's class whose father passed away.  We also took 11 recycle trashes out for other classes at our school.  Starting this wk we will begin taking up money for Whitney Elementary in Las Vegas.  We will be purchasing gift cards from Wal-Mart & Target to send to them so they can purchase food & clothes.  :)

September AOK!

We sent our boxes to Japan & Afghanistan this week!  :)  Our parents sent in SO many supplies we got to send 5 boxes!  The soldier's grandmother came to help us stuff the boxes & Mrs. Davis came to help as well!  I was SO proud of the boys & girls for this project!  We sent boxes STUFFED with:  cards, stationary, Q-Tips, pens, soap, toothbrushes/toothpaste, combs, puzzle books, washcloths, hankies, & candy.  Hopefully, we will make a lot of soldiers happy!  :)

Week 6

This was a short, busy wk @ school so we didn't do that many AOK's.  On Tues. we collected all of our broken crayons for Mrs. Cunningham (one of her friends is doing a special project w/ them).  On Wednesday we took Miss Joiner's recycle trash for her.  She came & asked us to & the kids were super excited to do it!  :)  Also on Friday I went to the Post Office & got the boxes & labels to send our stuff to the soldiers.  I also swung by The Dollar General to get some more supplies to stuff the boxes with.  I talked w/ one of the Grandmas that's coming Wed. to help us stuff-she & her friend are SO EXCITED to come and help us!  She's bringing us pics to put on our wall so the kids will have a face to put with a name.  :)  We're going to make cards for them tomorrow to put in our boxes.  It's exciting to see our next big project come to a culmination!  It's going to be an exciting wk!  :)
